Genetic counselor, peds audiologist, gastroenterologist join UMMC faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Erin McCown, M.S.

Erin McCown, a genetic counselor, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in pediatrics.

After receiving her B.S. in microbiology summa cum laude from Mississippi State University in 2016, McCown earned her M.S. in genetic counseling in 2018 at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has completed clinical rotations in cancer, pediatric, prenatal and specialty genetics at UAB, UMMC, the University of South Alabama Mitchell Cancer Institute and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

McCown has given various presentations at genetic counseling journal clubs, support group meetings and chart conferences and is a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors.

 

Telciane S. Vesa, M.D.

Dr. Telciane S. Vesa, a seasoned gastroenterologist, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine.

After earning her M.D., Vesa had motility training with the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 2012 and a gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, Shreveport, in 2014. Vesa achieved Gastroenterology Board Certification in 2014.

Vesa was a general practitioner, family physician and clinical emergencist in Brazil for three years before coming to the U.S. She served as an internal medicine-hospitalist for Mississippi Baptist Health Systems in Jackson from 2010-11. Vesa was affiliated with Ferrell-Duncan Clinic Gastroenterology, Cox Health Medical Center, Branson, Missouri, from 2014-15 before joining the faculty at the Mercer University School of Medicine, Savannah, Georgia, in 2016 as an associate professor of gastroenterology. She concurrently was in private practice at the Center for Digestive and Liver Health in Savannah.

Vesa is an active member in several professional organizations, including the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society and the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.

 

Kaitlyn A. Wenrich, Au.D.

Dr. Kaitlyn Wenrich, a pediatric audiologist, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of otolaryngology and communicative sciences.

Wenrich received her Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Mississippi in 2013 and her Master of Science in Clinical Investigation and Doctor of Audiology degrees from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis in 2018. During her enrollment at Washington University, she worked in the Childhood Deafness and Aural Rehabilitation Lab.

Wenrich is the coauthor of three scientific articles in peer-reviewed professional publications. In addition, she was a TL1 Intensive Research Scholar, supported by the National Institutes of Health, and a Pediatric Audiology Specialization Scholar, supported by the U.S. Department of Education. She is also the recipient of several other scholarships and awards, including the American Academy of Audiology Foundation Scholarship and the American Academy of Audiology Research Forum Award.

Wenrich is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology.
